About Husain Abdullah
Husain Abdullah was born in Los Angeles, California, July 27, 1985. Born to convert parents, Muhammad Abdullah and Sa'eeda Johnwell, Husain and his siblings grew up studying and practicing Islam inside the house while learning survival as a Black African American outside the house. After a divorce and remarriage, Husain and his siblings were raised in Pomona, California by Sa'eeda and Yusuf Johnwell.
Yusuf Johnwell instilled Islamic values and principles into his children through hard work and sports. Husain Abdullah took the teachings of Yusuf and went on to excel in sports in High School, College and the National Football League. Recognized by his peers and coaches for his quiet and focused leadership, Husain was named "Captain" of his football team at every level of sport.
During his seven year NFL career (Minnesota Vikings/Kansas City Chiefs), Husain used his status and platform to influence thought on Ethics, Leadership, Social Justice, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and he educated worldwide audiences on Islam. NFL Films, ABC, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Players Tribune, and more have documented his life’s journey and shared his young wisdom with the world.
Husain Abdullah was the catalyst for the loudest recorded roar (142.2 decibels) in outdoor sports history, on September 29, 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium, when he intercepted Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and returned the ball 39 yards for a touchdown. Husain's post touchdown Sajdah (prostration) in the end zone sparked controversy and discourse around the world on athletes worshiping God.
Carrying a Bachelors in Sociology from Washington State University and a Masters in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University, Husain uses his education to leave a positive mark on society.
Husain is a serial entrepreneur, keynote speaker, executive coach, and mentor to many. With his first book, Mecca to Medina: 100 Personal Reflections on Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ Hijrah Journey, Husain is now an Author as well.
Husain aims to worship The Creator by serving His creation.
